MUMBAI: India is the biggest broadcast market for Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with the 2017 edition viewership seeing a 19% increase to more than 97 million. CPL 2017 took place between 4 August and 9 September 2017.
Sony Pictures Networks India has broadcast rights to the event in India. The 2017 edition was aired on Sony Six and live streamed on SonyLIV.
After India, the next largest broadcast market for the CPL was the Caribbean with a total viewership figure of 48 million. The league’s viewership also witnessed a significant increase in the USA with a 100% jump in viewership compared to the 2016 edition.
CPL 2017 garnered combined broadcast and digital viewership of almost 200 million, an increase of 25% compared to the last season.
There was also a further increase in the digital viewership for the tournament, with 25% of the total audience coming through various digital channels.
Commenting on the viewership figures, CPL CEO Damien O’Donohoe said, “With continued year-on-year growth the Hero CPL goes into the 2018 season with momentum to secure an even larger audience for the next edition of the tournament. We are delighted to see the Biggest Party in Sport being watched by more people than ever before and expect that trend to continue next year.”
