US soccer, Futura unveil official poster to celebrate participation in the 2014 soccer World Cup

MUMBAI: US soccer and its Art Director Futura have unveiled the official U.S. soccer poster to celebrate participation in the 2014 soccer World Cup.

The poster is a collage of different design elements that includes Futura’s illustrative characters playing soccer over an abstract kaleidoscopic background along with a globe, soccer ball, Futura’s re-imagined U.S. Soccer crest and hand-scrawled “One Nation. One Team.” motto.

US-Soccer_LogoFutura said, “There are different genres that I do. There’s an abstract nature of my work. There’s a very graphic style. There are also illustrative characters that I’ve done, so I used one of those characters. I was really happy with how that came out. There were some handwritten aspects to ‘One Nation. One Team’ that I’m really happy about. It’s minor graphic elements but when you throw them all together, they look great.”

Information will be provided in the future on how to possibly obtain the limited edition poster.

A native of New York, Futura is world renowned for his pioneering role in the birth of graffiti-style artwork. As part of his role as Art Director, he has designed a limited-edition Kayo skate deck embracing the “One Nation. One Team.” motto, the official poster and performed live, creating original works. For the skateboard, his original artwork was painted onto the world’s highest quality wood to create a one-of-a-kind Kayo deck that intertwines soccer and the skateboard cultures All 23 players on the U.S. men’s national team received an exclusive Futura-designed Kayo deck as part of the World Cup package provided by Nike, which includes clothes, luggage and sneakers. Two hundred additional Futura-designed Kayo boards were produced for this unique collaboration and information will be provided in the future on how to possibly obtain the limited-edition item.

Futura will ultimately create two ‘live’ works of art. The first one was created at U.S. Soccer’s Fan Appreciation Day on 30 May in Times Square during US Soccer music director Lupe Fiasco’s musical performance and the second will take place during Lupe Fiasco’s performance at the U.S. Soccer Fan Fest in Chicago on 16 June. Both works will be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting Fiasco’s “Mission” campaign.
