Jawahar Goel to be acting CEO of Dish TV till replacement is found for Venkateish; Gaurav Goel gets expanded role
MUMBAI: Dish TV managing director Jawahar Goel will take on the additional role of chief executive officer till a replacement is found for RC Venkateish.
Jawahar’s son Gaurav Goel will also assume an expanded role in Dish TV from 1 November. Gaurav, currently executive vice president, will be designated as Dish TV president of business development and strategy for three years from 1 November 2015.
“Jawahar will be acting CEO of Dish TV till a suitable candidate is finalised. Venkateish has stepped down as Dish TV CEO to pursue a more flexible professional career,” a source said.
According to industry analysts, Gaurav is being groomed as the future CEO of the company. During his tenure as EVP of business development and strategy, he has assisted the CEO of Dish TV in various facets of operations. He has played a key role in finalising the business strategies of the company. He has been deeply involved with marketing, sales, service, call centre and CRM functions of the company. He has also guided the human resources function of Dish TV to develop the talent pool in the organisation.
Born on 10 April 1980, Gaurav holds a graduate degree in Business Administration with specialisation in finance and marketing. His professional career began in the year 2003 with the launch of a 24-hour religious channel called Zee Jagran. Working with a small team of self-motivated professionals from within the group, he was able to launch the channel with almost zero capital. He was directly responsible for the distribution of the channel and was an active participant in business administration as well.
While managing his responsibilities at Zee Jagran, Gaurav took on the added responsibility of product development and logistics for Dish TV, which was then in its initial stages. His job was to interact with the hardware vendors for product testing and development, quality checks and order delivery.
Meanwhile, Venkateish will continue to be associated with the company in an advisory role, specifically in areas relating to content, legal and regulatory affairs. He will also continue to represent Dish TV in the DTH Association and before industry and regulatory bodies.
Venkateish, who spent five years in Dish TV, has the satisfaction of seeing the direct-to-home (DTH) company turn profitable at the net level. Under his term as CEO, Dish TV more than doubled its revenues, increased market share, and launched various new services including a sub-brand called Zing. Dish TV also launched DTH services in Sri Lanka through a joint venture company with Satnet Pvt Ltd.
In another development, Subhash Chandra has resigned as Dish TV chairman. The role has been assumed by Jawahar.
