As the task force members discussed issues related to switchover from analogue to DAS, LCOs protested outside, raising issues including quality of STBs, margins, interconnect agreements, billing, switching off of the STBs.

Independent MSOs and LCOs have all along complained that they have got a raw deal in the digital addressable system roll out with inadequate representation in the Task Force. The new govt has corrected that.

Amritsar’s cable ops have moved TDSAT against MSO Fastway Transmission’s decision to hike monthly subscription fees. The tribunal has issued a notice to Fastway and has asked it to file its reply within three weeks.

Four months after Hathway had switched off set-top boxes (STBs) for non-submission of customer application forms (CAFs), the LCOs have returned the favour by blacking out the MSO’s cable TV signals.

The Karnataka State Cable Operators Association has said that its members will switch off signals of Hathway Cable across Bengaluru on 3 July for failing to keep its promises.

For the 200 LCOs in Solapur, the most radical change is digitisation. They hope that the deployment of STBs will make their consumers move to higher packages and VAS. Will they succeed in earning more from their age-old business? Will the smaller operators get consolidated? Have last-mile valuations gone up?
