Govt trims TV homes to be covered under DAS Phase III in Karnataka

MUMBAI: The total number of TV households in Karnataka to be covered in digital addressable system (DAS) Phase III has decreased, as per the fifth updated list released by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB).

The updated list shows that the total TV households have decreased by almost 169,554 to 2,028,622. As per the original list, 2,198,176 TV households across 30 districts were to be covered under DAS Phase III in Karnataka. Urban areas have been deleted in almost all the 30 districts of the state.

The updated list has been issued after receiving comments from the state government of Karnataka. The new list has come even as the deadline for DAS Phase III has ended.

Earlier, the MIB had issued the fourth updated list based on comments from the West Bengal government. As per that list, the number of TV households covered under DAS Phase III in West Bengal had almost halved to 10,55,469 from 20,01,845 in the original list.

The ministry had issued the first updated list for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andaman & Nicobar and Puducherry.

The second updated list included Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Telangana, as well as one Union Territory Daman & Diu.

The third updated list covered Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andaman & Nicobar and Puducherry.

In most cases, several urban areas were deleted or shifted in the updated lists. In certain cases, it also meant the addition of new areas.
