A written communication has been sent by the entertainment tax department to MSOs asking them to submit details of their LCOs and cable connections at the earliest.

MIB issues advisory asking authorised officers of states and Union Territories to initiate action against MSOs and LCOs who are transmitting analogue signals on cable TV networks in any part of the country.

Hathway Cable & Datacom intends to invest up to Rs 1,000 crore in the next three years to expand its broadband business. Out of this, the investment in South India will be around Rs 500 crore The company is expecting to add one mn broadband subscribers during this period.

It is for the first time that DAS licence has been provided to a state govt agency. Arasu has been granted 3 months to complete digitisation of its analogue network. Provisional licence is also subject to MIB taking a final call on TRAI’s recommendations suggesting entry barriers for state govt or its entities in the TV broadcasting and distribution sector.

While the net capex for cable TV will be around Rs 50 crore, the broadband investment will be in the region of 30 crore.
